Old Kashan carpet, town of Kashan, Central Persia (Iran), Ca 1935-45. Green is a most unusual ground colour in any old carpet woven by islamic weavers, it being the holy colour associated with the holy profet Muhammed. In this old Kashan, the green dye has faded very slightly to a very agreable pistachio shade, working well with the warm and beuatifully drawn borders and scroll design. The wool quality and weaving technique is high with a knot count of around 185 pr square inch. 307 x 218 cms, 10'1''x7'2''
