L'ORÉE DU BOIS: A PAIR OF CULTURED PEARL, DIAMOND AND EBONY EARCLIPS, CIRCA 2000

Special Order

Each designed as a flowering dome of brilliant-cut diamonds and ebony petals, surmounted by a round Tahitian cultured pearl measuring approximately 14mm, mounted in 18K gold, signed L'orée du Bois, diamonds approximately 2.20cts total, with maker's mark, length 4.5cm

Frédéric Béziat launched the niche Maison L’Orée du Bois in 1992 to showcase his bespoke high jewellery collection. The name translates as “golden wood” and was inspired by his partly aristocratic family heritage as well as his travels. Béziat was originally a lawyer before turning to jewellery design in the early 1990s.

His signature approach combines exotic woods (ebony being particularly characteristic) with precious and semi-precious gemstones set in 18-carat gold. Coloured stones — tourmalines, topazes, amethysts, emeralds — are frequently used, often cabochon-cut, with a strong nature-inspired aesthetic. His style is described as combining Art Nouveau and Art Déco influences.

He counts some of the world’s most prestigious collectors among his clients, including the Sultan of Oman. More recently he partnered with Velaa Private Island in the Maldives to create two exclusive jewellery collections inspired by the resort’s natural surroundings.

The maison is relatively niche and not widely documented in major auction house literature, but has a devoted following in the vintage and estate jewellery market. Pieces are signed ‘L’ORÉE DU BOIS Made in France’.
