A RARE CELADON AND RUSSET JADE PIG-DRAGON
新石器时期 红山文化 青玉猪龙
Neolithic period, Hongshan culture
This exceptional jade pig-dragon (zhulong) is notable for its impressive size and exceptional rarity. The upturned snout, prominent eyes, and tightly coiled body recall the image of a dragon, suggesting that the zhulong may represent an early prototype of the dragon motif in Chinese art. A quintessential artifact of the Hongshan culture (circa 3500 BC), it reflects the culture’s refined craftsmanship and complex belief system.
